Free AI chatbot tools for RAG assessment and evaluation

This hub lists only tools you can run or download: a knowledge-base readiness assessment, and a scored evaluation template. It is not a roundup of ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude apps, and it does not relabel ordinary articles as tools.

What this page is for

English search results for “free AI chatbot tools” are almost all product directories: general-purpose chat apps, no-signup wrappers, and yearly “best of” lists. Those pages help someone pick a consumer assistant. They do not help a product or support team decide whether their documentation is ready for retrieval, or whether a RAG agent actually refuses questions it should not answer.

The two tools below are built for that second job. Use them before you treat a docs-grounded agent as ready for a SaaS website. If you later want Heeya to host that agent, the commercial fit is on AI customer support for SaaS.

A URL appears here only if it is interactive or offers a file you can take away. Comparison write-ups, pricing explainers, and copy-paste checklists stay on the blog, even when their titles contain the word calculator or template.

The tools on this hub

Two items. If a third tool becomes interactive or downloadable, it will be added here. Until then the list stays short on purpose.

Interactive

RAG knowledge base readiness assessment

A scored diagnostic of the corpus you would retrieve from, not of a vendor’s marketing page. It looks at structure, freshness, coverage, consistency, confidentiality, and document governance. The explanation lives on the same URL as the score, so you can see why a weak area matters before you ingest anything.

Use this first if you have not yet decided which sources belong in the agent.

Open the readiness assessment

Downloadable

RAG chatbot evaluation template

A file you can score by hand: accuracy against a known source, refusals, questions outside the corpus, and what the agent does when the source does not contain the answer. The page ships a real CSV, spreadsheet-ready, or JSON artifact plus the scoring method. It is not a blog post that merely describes evaluation.

Use this after you have an agent, including a Heeya test agent, and want evidence instead of a few happy-path questions.

A working order that does not waste a test run

  1. 1. Score the corpus, then fix the corpus.

Run the RAG knowledge base readiness assessment against the docs you actually plan to load. If freshness, contradictions, or confidential pages fail, those problems will show up as confident wrong answers later. The longer treatment of inventory, hygiene, and chunking is the knowledge base engineering guide. That guide is an article, not a tool.

  2. 2. Stand up an agent on the cleaned sources.

Only then does it make sense to chat with the system. Retrieval cannot repair a source you never ingested, and a polished UI will not hide a gap in coverage.

  3. 3. Run the evaluation file, including the ugly cases.

Download the RAG chatbot evaluation template and score accuracy, refusals, out-of-scope prompts, and missing-source behavior. A pass on FAQs you wrote yourself is not an evaluation. Background on why retrieval-backed support still needs this kind of test is in RAG for customer service.

What is not on this list, and why

Several English URLs look like tools in search snippets. They are useful pages. They fail the inclusion rule used here.

  • Cost and ROI articles. How much an AI chatbot costs and the AI chatbot ROI calculator page explain formulas and worked examples. Neither page currently has input fields. Until one of them becomes an actual calculator, it stays a guide.
  • RFP copy on the blog. The AI chatbot RFP template is written to be pasted into your own document. That page says there is no separate download. Copy-paste content is not listed as a downloadable tool.
  • Vendor comparisons. Head-to-head pages belong with their own queries. This hub does not absorb them, and it does not treat a comparison table as an interactive tool.
  • The Heeya product. Creating an agent, uploading files, and embedding a widget is the product, not a free utility on this URL. Plans live on Heeya pricing. Amounts are not copied here.

FAQ about free AI chatbot tools

Are these the same as free ChatGPT or Gemini chatbots?

No. Search results for free AI chatbot tools are mostly product roundups of general-purpose chat apps. This page lists Heeya's own interactive or downloadable tools for teams that are preparing or testing a documentation-grounded RAG chatbot.

Which tools are listed here, and why only these?

Two: a RAG knowledge base readiness assessment, and a downloadable RAG chatbot evaluation template. A page is listed only if you can run it or download a file from it. Comparison articles, formula write-ups, and copy-paste checklists stay on the blog.

Do I need a Heeya account to use these tools?

The assessment and the evaluation template are public pages on this site. Creating a Heeya agent and testing answers against your own documentation requires a Heeya account.

Where is the ROI or cost calculator?

The cost and ROI URLs are articles. They explain formulas and worked examples. They do not currently include form fields, so they are not listed as tools on this hub.

Is this the English version of the French outils hub?

No. The French outils section is a library of comparison articles. This English hub has a different job: only interactive or downloadable tools. The two URLs are not language equivalents.

What should I do after I finish the tools?

Use the assessment notes to clean sources, then run the evaluation template against a live agent. If you want that agent to be a Heeya widget on a SaaS site, create a free account and add the same documents you just scored.

Test the same sources in a Heeya agent

After the assessment and the evaluation file, the next step in this product is: create an account, add the documents you already scored, and try the answers in the dashboard. Current plans are on the pricing page; amounts are not repeated here.
