DocsBot Alternatives 2026: 6 Docs Chatbots Compared

Quick verdict

DocsBot is a strong product, and the best DocsBot alternative depends on what you want to change. Heeya fits small teams that want a lower, flat price, lead forms, tickets and appointment booking in the same tool, and EU storage. Chatbase and SiteGPT are the closest peers. CustomGPT.ai suits API-led projects, and kapa.ai suits developer-docs teams that want the deepest answer quality. Stay on DocsBot if you need its 38+ source connectors, SOC 2 Type II or high page volumes.

DocsBot turns documentation, help centers and files into a chatbot that answers from your content. Teams look for a DocsBot alternative for four reasons that come up again and again: the entry price, the way answers are billed (AI credits), what happens after the chatbot answers (leads, tickets), and where the data lives.

This guide compares six tools on those four points. We give DocsBot its due: it is one of the most complete products in the category. If you want the wider category first, our best RAG chatbot guide covers the field.

Heeya is our product; we assessed it with the same criteria as the others. Competitor prices were checked on their public pricing pages in November 2026 and can change.

What DocsBot does well, and why people look elsewhere

DocsBot imports your content (websites, sitemaps, PDF and Word files, Notion, Confluence, Zendesk Guide, cloud storage, GitHub, more than 38 source types according to its site) and answers with what it describes as an agentic RAG pipeline that retrieves and reranks passages before generating. It adds lead forms, integrations with help desks such as Zendesk, Help Scout, Freshdesk and Intercom, Zapier and Make connectors, and a SOC 2 Type II certification. It also lets you pick a US or EU data region.

So why shop around? Because of the pricing shape. DocsBot pricing (checked November 2026) starts with a free plan limited to one bot, 50 source pages and 100 AI credits, then Personal at $49/month (1 bot, 5,000 pages, 5,000 credits), Standard at $149/month (3 bots, 15,000 pages) and Business at $499/month (10 bots, 100,000 pages). Annual billing gives two months free. Lead capture, integrations and compliance options are spread across those tiers, and according to third-party reviews the standard DPA and SOC 2 sit on Business and above. Check that on your own quote.

For a five-person company with a few hundred pages of docs and a few hundred questions a month, $49 is not unreasonable, but you pay for capacity you will not use. For a software vendor with 50,000 pages, it is a fair deal. The right answer depends on volume.

1. Heeya: lower flat price, leads and tickets built in

Heeya does the same core job as DocsBot: you upload PDF, DOCX, PPTX or TXT files, scrape your site or help pages, or import a Q&A spreadsheet (xlsx or csv), and the agent answers from that content. The widget goes on any site with one line of script (WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, PrestaShop, Squarespace, React, custom builds), and there is also a hosted assistant page.

Key strengths:

  • Price: Standard is €19/month (500 messages, 1 million characters, 1 agent) and Premium is €99/month (2,500 messages, 3 million characters, 3 agents). Enterprise is on quote. There is a 7-day trial with no card.
  • What happens after the answer: the agent can show a contact form to capture leads (Standard and Premium). On Premium it can also open support tickets, book appointments (slots, confirmation emails with an .ics file) and push form submissions to a webhook, HubSpot or Pipedrive.
  • Answer reliability: each answer gets a reliability score, and the agent is instructed to stay within retrieved content and decline when the knowledge base does not cover the question.
  • Visitor identification (Premium): logged-in visitors can be recognized, so the agent knows who is asking.
  • Data: Heeya stores conversations and knowledge bases in the EU (OVH, France); message content is sent to AI providers (Google, OpenAI) that may process it outside the EU under standard contractual clauses or the Data Privacy Framework, with no training on your data. A signed processing addendum is available on request.

Good to know:

  • Heeya works in French and English, and the widget follows the page language.
  • You feed content by upload, scraping or Q&A import. For Confluence or Notion sync or a help desk import, DocsBot's connector catalog is wider.
  • The AI model is chosen and managed by the platform; to pick the model yourself, Chatbase is a better fit.
  • Heeya is built so the AI agent answers on its own from your content; if your team wants to reply live in the widget, Crisp or Intercom are better suited.
  • The appointment tool sends .ics files and an add-to-Google-Calendar link with each confirmed appointment.

Pricing: flat monthly plans, see the Heeya pricing page.

Best for: small and mid-sized teams in France, the UK and the EU that want a documentation or product-support chatbot at a lower fixed price, with leads and tickets handled in the same tool.

2. Chatbase: the largest ecosystem

Chatbase is probably the best-known name in the category. It trains an agent on files, links and text, and ships native integrations (Slack, WhatsApp, Shopify) plus an API. Our Chatbase alternatives guide and Heeya vs Chatbase comparison go deeper.

Key strengths:

  • Large community and mature documentation
  • Messaging channels and voice agents on higher plans
  • Enterprise tier with SSO, audit logs and white-labeling

Pricing: Hobby $32/month (700 message credits, 1 agent), Basic $120/month (4,000 credits), Business $400/month (15,000 credits), billed yearly, Enterprise on quote. Removing the branding costs $99/month extra, and extra credits are sold in packs. Credit-based billing makes cost harder to forecast than a flat plan.

Best for: teams that want the widest set of channels and a big ecosystem, and accept credit-based billing.

3. SiteGPT: website-first, model choice

SiteGPT is built around training on a website and help center. Its distinctive feature is model choice: a cheaper model costs about a tenth of a premium one in credits, so you trade cost against answer quality yourself. See our SiteGPT alternatives guide.

Pricing: Starter $39/month billed yearly ($59 monthly) with 1 chatbot, 4,000 messages and 1,000 pages. Growth $79/month (2 chatbots, 10,000 messages, 10,000 pages), Scale $259/month. WhatsApp ($39 per number) and AI email support are paid add-ons. The trial is 7 days and requires a card. The vendor is US-based; its own DPA page says EU-only storage is not available.

Best for: website and help-center bots where you want control over model cost.

4. CustomGPT.ai: API and business content

CustomGPT.ai targets teams that want a developer-friendly platform with an API and a large capacity for documents. It is the most expensive entry point here, and its query allowance is the tightest.

Pricing: Standard $99/month (10 agents, 1,000 queries, 5,000 documents per agent), Premium $499/month (25 agents, 5,000 queries), Enterprise on quote. Annual billing saves 10%. The trial is 7 days with a card. See the CustomGPT.ai alternatives guide for the hosting details.

Best for: teams embedding a chatbot in a product via API, with budget for it.

5. kapa.ai: developer documentation specialist

kapa.ai is the one tool here built for a single job: answering technical questions from developer documentation. It connects to 50+ sources (docs, GitHub, Slack, Discord), says it can answer "I don't know" instead of guessing, and offers analytics that show gaps in your docs. Its own article claims it handles 2 million questions a month for 200+ enterprise clients.

The trade-off is complexity and positioning: it is sold to software companies with public docs, not to a small business with a few PDFs. Pricing is not published on the page we checked, so expect a sales conversation. We do not list a price.

Best for: software and API companies where answer accuracy on technical docs is the main KPI.

6. SiteSpeakAI: lead-oriented lightweight option

SiteSpeakAI trains a chatbot on a website and files and leans toward lead generation and low entry prices. We could not confirm its current plan grid on a pricing page we trust, so check its site directly. Be aware that its DocsBot comparison page is vendor marketing, as is any comparison page, including ours.

Best for: small sites that want a lightweight lead-capturing bot and are happy with a US-hosted tool.

Data hosting: what to check

Hosting is where DocsBot is stronger than many people assume. It offers a US or EU region, and its EU region is assigned automatically if you sign up from a European IP address. That is a real advantage over several peers above. The limits to verify are the plan that includes the DPA and whether the AI provider call itself stays in the EU, because the model provider still sees message content.

The same question applies to every tool, Heeya included. Heeya stores conversations and knowledge bases in the EU (OVH, France); message content is sent to AI providers (Google, OpenAI) that may process it outside the EU under standard contractual clauses or the Data Privacy Framework, with no training on your data. Ask each vendor three things: where is the knowledge base stored, which model providers receive the text, and is a signed DPA included in your plan. Our GDPR-compliant AI chatbot guide has the full checklist.

DocsBot alternatives: FAQ

What is the best DocsBot alternative?

It depends on the gap you want to close. Heeya is the best pick for small teams wanting a lower flat price (€19/month) with lead forms, tickets and EU storage. Chatbase is closest in features and ecosystem, and kapa.ai is best for developer documentation. DocsBot itself remains the better choice if you need its 38+ source connectors or SOC 2 Type II.

How much does DocsBot cost?

As checked in November 2026: a free plan (1 bot, 50 pages, 100 AI credits), Personal at $49/month, Standard at $149/month and Business at $499/month. Annual billing gives two months free. Usage is metered in AI credits.

Is there a cheaper DocsBot alternative?

Yes. Heeya Standard is €19/month and Chatbase Hobby is $32/month billed yearly, against $49 for DocsBot Personal. The limits differ: Heeya Standard includes 500 messages and 1 agent, Chatbase Hobby 700 credits. Compare capacity, not just the headline price.

Does DocsBot offer EU data hosting?

Yes. DocsBot has a US and an EU data region, and assigns the EU region automatically to accounts created from a European IP address. Check which plan includes the standard DPA and which AI providers process message content.

DocsBot vs Heeya: what is the main difference?

Both answer from your own content with RAG. DocsBot has far more source connectors, more languages and SOC 2 Type II. Heeya is cheaper at low volume, includes tickets, booking and lead forms in the product, stores data in the EU (OVH, France), and supports French and English.

Which DocsBot alternative is best for lead capture?

Heeya (contact form on Standard and Premium, plus HubSpot and Pipedrive connectors on Premium), DocsBot (lead forms from Personal) and SiteSpeakAI all treat lead capture as a core feature. Pick on price and on the CRM you use.

Can I train a chatbot on my documentation without code?

Yes, every tool here does it: you add files or a site URL, the tool indexes the content, and you paste a script on your site. Differences show up in answer quality on your real questions, which is why a test on your own documents beats any feature list.

Final verdict

DocsBot is not a product to leave lightly if you use its connectors, its SOC 2 certification or its page capacity. If you do not, you are probably paying for headroom. For a small team, Heeya covers the same core job at €19/month, with lead forms, tickets and EU storage. For a developer-docs team, kapa.ai is worth a call. For channel breadth, Chatbase.
